Youth Mission

For the past six years, a new  core CCA -the CHIJ Youth Mission - has been introduced.

This core CCA programme,  is focused on providing an enabling environment for girls to recognize and promote the dignity of human persons especially the disadvantaged.

The girls in this CCA are transformed by the experience of servant leadership.

Latest update of the IJ Youth Mission activities are featured in the Sint Unum 2011 issue.

Objectives

Its objectives are:

  • To integrate faith and service for others into a purposeful motivation for living
  • To develop the social, cognitive, emotional and spiritual well-being of youths
  • To act justly, love tenderly and  walk humbly with God
  •

All IJ Youth Mission members in the school are given a chance to work together with four other IJ Schools, CHIJ St. Nicholas, CHIJ St. Theresa’s, CHIJ St Joseph’s and CHIJ Katong. The bond, that this CCA shares, is the IJ mission and vision that belongs to all the IJ schools. Another unifying factor is the objectives of the programme, as well as the structure of the meetings, that will provide the training for the development of spirituality in the students.  Join the IJ Youth Mission to acquire inner strength and to discover the meaning and purpose in service.

Youth Mission @ CHIJ Secondary Toa Payoh

Started Jan 2005 | Last mission to Chang Rai

In 2006, the members embarked on a 5-day mission trip to Dalat, East Malaysia, and had a chance to share their faith and God-given talents with a larger community from a different culture and faith background. The members came back more enriched and more appreciative of the beauty in reaching out to others.

In late Oct 2010, 21 Sec 3 students joined 4 Sec 2 Katong Convent students in a mission trip at Siem Reap, Cambodia.

IJYM is a CCA which four other CHIJ schools have as well. It was formerly known as 'The Young Catholic Movements'. KC IJYM is not a CCA where people join as a hobby, neither is it a CCA where people join because they are talented in it. We do volunteer work to help marginalized societies such as abandoned old folks and children . We also organize trips to old folks homes and plan fund-raising activities as well. Once a week we meet up at the chapel of our school. The whole IJYM community is led by Sherlyn, a member of Acts 29, a missionary group.

    KC helps the less fortunate.

We believe in making a difference in people's lives.

Youth Mission @ CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls School

Started Jan 2005 | Last mission to Chang Rai

    A leader in every child

At CHIJ St Nicholas Girls’ School, we believe that there is a leader in every student. It is the school’s desire and responsibility to nurture that leader in every girl the moment she steps in at Secondary 1.

Our aspiration is for every St Nicholas student to be a leader who demonstrates the values of truth, justice, freedom, and love, serving the needs of the disadvantaged and underprivileged (in line with the IJ mission). A St Nicholas student will exhibit these attributes in the way she lives, always upholding the school motto, Simple in Virtue, Steadfast in Duty

As a sense of community dominates the culture of a Catholic school, the role of the IJYM is to provide the conditions needed to create within its members a sense of  differentiation between "we"  from  "I"    ... read more
